Born in Minco, Oklahoma, Darel William Parker graduated high school and joined the United States Air Force in 1943, graduating from Pilot Squadron 73 at Santa Ana Army Air Base on August 31 of that same year. Honorably discharged after World War II, Darel went on to work as an air traffic controller for the Federal Aviation Administration, finally retiring in 1976 having served the The United States for more than thirty three years. In 1977, Darel and his family settled in McAllen, Texas where he remained until his passing in 1984.
